As February rolls around, the Windy City is gearing up for the annual 2019 Chicago Auto Show. Each year, Chicago’s McCormick Place plays host to some of the newest and most exciting vehicles on the market, as well as plenty of concept cars and new automotive technology. As the largest auto show in North America, the Chicago Auto Show—which takes place February 9-18—sees the rollout of several new car introductions every year.
This year, there’s plenty of news around what will be stealing the spotlight at the snow. But one recent back-and-forth on Twitter is causing serious speculation about what RAM is planning to bring to the show. It first began when the account for GMC tweeted a short video with the message “The Rams already lost.” The video featured the company’s flagship six-function tailgate, apparently flaunting that it was the only one of its kind on the market.
But RAM didn’t take long to fire back. The Twitter account responded with the cryptic message: “Flag on the play. False start. Check back with us on 2/7/19.” Many think the message seems to imply that RAM has its own plans to unveil a new multi-functional tailgate, presumably at the Chicago Auto Show, given the date the carmaker provided.
Spy photos from 2017 indicate that RAM was working on a split tailgate that could function normally or swing out like a door. A 2014 patent application also showed that the doors could be operated via touchpad. Many are assuming the new tailgate will be debuted via the new model year of the RAM 1500 truck, which won Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year award at the Detroit Auto Show.
Whatever RAM decides to unveil, our team at Gesswein Motors is excited to see it. And in the meantime, stop by our South Dakota RAM dealership in Milbank to learn more about the great 2019 RAM trucks currently on our lot!
