Buying a new car at Gesswein Motors is an exciting experience, and one that many have anticipated for a long time. The budgeting, assessing your new-car needs, planning for which make and model you’d like, and searching dealerships, websites, and more can be exhilarating—and a bit exhausting, too. Many drivers bring their new cars home and think they won’t have to deal with any car needs for a long time; but this isn’t always true. Routine car maintenance is an important part of car ownership.
While there are several aspects of regular maintenance on your new or pre-owned Jeep® SUV, we’re going to focus on tires here. As the only point of contact between your vehicle and the road, your tires are essential to the proper function of the vehicle, and as such must be properly maintained. Failure to keep your tires in good condition can mean reduced traction and stopping time at best, and dangerous accidents and expensive repairs at worst.
The two most important things to consider with your tires are the tread depth, and their age. When the tire tread is worn down, your tire isn’t able to grab the road as effectively, and you’ll experience a loss of traction, especially in bad weather such as rain, snow, and ice. And although an old tire may have enough tread, the rubber can become dry and cracked, which can cause a blown or flat tire if not replaced.
You can check the tread depth yourself with a penny: Insert it into the tire’s groove with Lincoln’s head pointing toward the tire. If you can see the top of his head, you need to replace your tires immediately. If it’s even close to the top, you should visit our auto service center in Milbank, SD, to discuss having them replaced. We carry most brands and sized, and our skilled technicians will be happy to assist you.
